Today we celebrate International Day of Rural Women
The Rural Women Conference: Improving the quality of life in the countryside is organized in Belgrade on October 16, 2017. The Gender Equality Coordination Body in cooperation with UN Women and the Women's Development Platform, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is organizing an event aimed at reaching consensus among key stakeholders on gender sensitive and comprehensive rural development.
The President of the "National LEADER Network" and "Leader + Banatski Karlovac", Ivana Stefanović Ristin, represented the organization at this gathering.
Zorana Mihajlović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, President of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, pointed out that this is an extremely important issue and that despite numerous obstructions, attempts to reduce the importance of the topic and numerous problems, give up support in improving the position of women in Serbia. Mrs. Mihajlović said that women account for 51% of the population, and that they can still be marginalized, and that they are marginalized in Serbia.
Željko Radošević, State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, said that this is the job for the whole Government of the Republic of Serbia. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management is aware that women are the pillar of every family farm, and all of us should contribute to the development of their wealthy position. Only 27% of women are holders of agricultural holdings, and 63% of women are informally engaged in agriculture.
Milana Rikanović, UN Women's Head, expressed her hope that everyone will join in further support for the position of women in the countryside.
